Vascular Ultrasound

Evaluates lower and upper extremity venous, including the veins and arteries. Examines blood vessels and veins in the abdomen, neck, arms and legs to determine whether blood clots are present.

What does a vascular ultrasound detect?

Clots and blockages arteries and veins (deep venous thrombosis) or leaky valves in the veins that may cause edema or swelling (chronic venous insufficiency). It is used post-procedure to monitor grafts and stents for signs of blockages returning.

What should I expect?
  • Exam will take approximately 60 minutes
  • Lower and Upper Extremity Arterial - Blood pressure will be taken in both arms & ankles
  • Lower Arterial Only – You may not eat or drink 6 hours prior to testing
